DERMON AND ELIAS IN THE LAND OF THE DINOSAURS

By Dee Daw
Sept. 3, 2010

The [___] family went on a trip to Texas. The whole family was in the car -- Papa, Mama, Dermon, Elias, and Cokey the crazy bird. They were going to visit Pappy. It was a long trip and Cokey made noise all the way.

They drove past many cows and fields and oil wells and forests, and then they found themselves driving in a strange looking place full of great big rocks. The rocks were in all kinds of weird shapes: long, short, high, low, straight, twisted, round, square, and even upside- down and inside-out. Some of the giant rocks were red, some blue, some yellow, some purple, but most just looked like great big weird rocks.

"Lets stop here!" said Elias.

Dermon said, "Yes! We can let Cokey fly around and maybe he won't make so much noise. And we can see these crazy rocks.

"That is a good idea," said Papa. "I think so too," said Mama.

"MEEEE TOOOO!" squawked Cokey, very loudly.

So they parked the car under a big sign that said:

"THE BIG ROCKS. DANGER! Beware of Monsters."

As they got out of the car Mama said, "We better be careful, because
this place looks mysterious and dangerous. Who knows what might live among these giant rocks?"

"Yes," said Papa. "Giant rocks are often the home of giants. So you kids be very careful and stay near us."

But Dermon and Elias weren't scared.

Cokey flew around happily. He didn't make so much noise because he was busy catching bugs to eat.

The family walked between the giant rocks, looking up at the tall rocks and down at the low rocks. There were high hills and deep holes.

As they stood on a high hill, they saw a hole in the shape of a giant foot.

"That looks like the footprint of a giant!" said Dermon.

"There is another one!" said Elias. Indeed, they all saw that the big holes were the footprints of a giant.

Mama said, "There are giants here! I'm scared! Let's go back to the car!"

Papa said, "I think these are old footprints and the giants are gone. Don't be scared."

Then they came upon some big rocks that formed a giant chair. It was the Giant's Throne. Next to the Giant's Throne was a giant hot dog longer than a whale. It was half eaten.

"Hmmm," said Papa. "Now I am not so sure those are old footprints. That giant might come back to finish his hot dog. Let's go back to the car."

They hurried back toward the car across the rocks. "Be careful that
you kids don't slip into any of these footprints," said Mama.

Then, suddenly, Mama tripped on a rock and started to fall into a big hole! Papa grabbed her but then he fell in too. The hole had water in it so Mama and Papa got wet. "Yuk!" said Mama. "This is nothing but a big old hole! And it is smelly!" Cokey flew in circles excitedly.

Elias and Dermon didn't fall in, because they were careful and paying attention. Then they saw that the hole was not just a hole… it was The Giant's Potty!

The sides were steep and Mama and Papa could not climb out!

Dermon shouted down to them, "Wait there! We will find a rope and pull you out!"

"But where will we find a rope?" asked Elias.

Suddenly they heard a weird old hollow voice that sounded like an old old man inside a cave. "I CAN HELP YOU," the voice said.

Dermon and Elias looked around and saw a very big, very old log stretched between two rocks like a bridge. The great big log has two eyes and a mouth. It was talking to them.

"I HAVE BEEN WATCHING," said the log in his old loggy voice. "I SEE THAT YOU ARE GOOD BOYS WHO LOVE THEIR MAMA AND PAPA. I WILL HELP, FOR
I AM THE WISE OLD LOG, AND I HAVE MAGIC POWERS."

Dermon said, "Hello, Wise Old Log. I am Dermon."

Elias said, "Hello, Wise Old Log. I am Elias."

Dermon said, "Wise Old Log, if you have magic, then maybe you can give Elias and me magic powers, so we can help Mama and Papa."

Elias said, "Then we can help you if you need any help."

"THAT IS A GOOD IDEA," intoned the Log. "YOU ARE VERY SMART BOYS. COME CLOSER AND STAND ON MY BACK."

The boys climbed onto the log and stood on his back.

"NOW SAY THESE MAGIC WORDS AND I WILL GIVE YOU POWERS. GOOLAH PAHN DAH-
LAH-- MAYLAY KOM DAH LAH."

"Goolah pahn dah-lah -- Maylay kom dah lah" said the boys in unison.

"NOW," said the Log, "YOU HAVE THREE POWERS! FIRST POWER IS: SUPER
STRENGTH. SECOND POWER IS: POWER RAYS. THIRD POWER IS: A MYSTERY
POWER! YOU WILL HAVE TO FIND OUT WHAT IT IS!"

"Thank you, O Log," said Dermon, already feeling stronger. Elias asked, "What can we do for you in return?"

The Log said, "YOU CAN SCRATCH MY BACK BY SCUFFING YOUR FEET ON IT,
FOR I AM OLD AND FEEL ITCHY."

So the boys scratched the Log's back with their shoes. The Log went "OOOOOH!" because it felt good. "THANK YOU" he said. "NOW GO AND SAVE
YOUR CLUMSY PARENTS."

The boys ran to the hole. They didn't have a rope, but they didn't need one because they were super strong. Dermon held Elias's arms and lowered him down into the hole so Papa and Mama could grab his feet. Then Dermon pulled them all up out of the hole.

"You boys are so strong!" said Papa when he was out of the hole. "Yes, how did you get so strong?" asked Mama.

"We will tell you later," said Elias. "But first, you should go to the
car and dry off, before the giant comes back."

But suddenly there was a load "ROAAAARRRRRR!" It was the Giant! He had returned to finish his giant hot dog. He was as tall as a mountain and very mean looking. Cokey shrieked because he was scared, and flew in fast circles.

But Dermon and Elias were not afraid. They had magic powers from the Log.

"You don't scare us!" they said. "We are not afraid of you!"

"I WILL DESTROY YOU!" said the Giant, but Dermon and Elias held out their hands and shot Power Rays at the Giant. The Giant shrank down to smaller than Elias and ran away, crying.

"Now we can eat that bully's hot dog," said Dermon.

Mama and Papa couldn't believe it. "How did you get these powers? You scared the giant away!" said Papa. "They must have magic," said Mama. "That sure is a lucky thing."

The boys explained that The Wise Old Log had given them magic powers. But Mama and Papa were cold and shivering because they were still wet from falling in the Giant's Potty.

"Mama and Papa, you should go to the car and get dry," said Dermon. "We will come along after we finish eating the rest of this giant hot dog."

So Mama and Papa went back to the car to get towels and dry off. Dermon, Elias and Cokey sat on the rocks and ate the rest of the Giant's hot dog. It was as big as a bus. Soon they were full.

"BURRRP. Let's go back to the car now," said Elias. "BURRRRP. Okay," said Dermon. "But wait! What is that noise?"

"Ah-OOOOH-gah," came a noise from behind some rocks. They went to look and saw a Land Whale! -- a great big gray whale, lying on the ground, with his mouth open wide.

"HELLO BOYS" said the Land Whale. "THE WISE OLD LOG TOLD ME ABOUT YOU. HE SAID YOU WERE GOOD BOYS AND VERY POWERFUL. WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO A
GOOD DEED WITH YOUR MAGIC POWERS?"

"Yes," said both boys.

The Land Whale pointed with his tail to a place far away -- it was a long bridge over a deep valley.

"THAT IS THE BRIDGE TO THE LAND OF DINOSAURS," said the Land Whale. "THE BAD DINOSAURS THERE ARE BEING MEAN TO THE GOOD DINOSAURS. WITH
YOUR POWERS YOU CAN HELP THE GOOD DINOSAURS."

"But," said Dermon, "If we are not back to the car soon, our parents will worry."

"YOU CAN GET BACK BY MAGIC," said the Whale. "BUT ONLY YOU, WITH YOUR
POWERS, CAN HELP THE GOOD DINOSAURS."

"Then we will help," said Elias.

"SQUAWK" said Cokey.

They walked to the bridge. Above the bridge was a sign that said:

BRIDGE TO THE LAND OF DINOSAURS

The bridge was very narrow and shaky and scary, and the ground was far below, but Elias and Dermon walked carefully across. On the other side was not big rocks, but a thick jungle.

"That wasn't hard," said Dermon.

But suddenly, out of the jungle burst a giant Crab Monster! It was almost as big as a house and had claws as big as a refrigerator. The Crab Monster was fast! And it grabbed Elias in one of its claws!

"I will save you!" said Dermon, and he shot Power Rays from his hands. The Power Rays made the Crab Monster drop Elias and scamper off into the jungle, wailing like a little baby.

"Thanks for saving me," said Elias. "If you get in trouble, I will save you."

The boys walked on into the Land of Dinosaurs. And it was indeed a land of dinosaurs. There were all kinds: flying Pterodactyls in the air, big spiky Stegosauruses and Ankylosauruses on the land, swift- running Velociraptors, and in the jungle lakes there were Elasmosauruses and Plesiosauruses swimming in the water. There were dinosaurs everywhere, but they did not bother Dermon and Elias.

"These must be the good dinosaurs," said Elias.

"Yes, but where are the bad dinosaurs?" asked Dermon.

"SQUAWK" said Cokey.

They walked along and found themselves in the Valley of the Triceratopses. Everywhere they looked they saw a nice Triceratops eating bushes and grass. But then they heard a sad, scared sound like a giant cow. It was a big old Triceratops that had fallen into a deep ditch because of its bad eyesight. It looked so sad, because it could
not climb out of the ditch, and it was getting hungry.

The boys decided to save the poor animal. Dermon leaped down into the ditch. At first the Triceratops was scared, but then it saw that Dermon was friendly. Dermon used his super strength to push the Triceratops up. Elias, standing at the top of the ditch, grabbed the Triceratops by the horns and pulled it the rest of the way out.

The Triceratops was so thankful that it licked the boys' hands in gratitude.

"We must go now," said Dermon, "And find the bad dinosaurs." So they walked on across the Land of the Dinosaurs.

Everywhere they looked, they saw giant trees, giant birds, giant dinosaurs and giant everything. But then they came to a very dark forest. The sun was dim there and it was getting dark. There were strange sounds from deep in the forest, like animals running around that they couldn't see. Then they heard a howl.

"This is the Forest of the Werewolves!" exclaimed Dermon. "Let's get out of here!" said Elias.

They started to run through the forest but suddenly their way was blocked -- by a dozen werewolves! They were all tall and hairy and had claws and sharp teeth, and acted like animals but wore pants like people. The King Werewolf, in the front, said, "GET THEM! GRRRR!"

All the werewolves pounced onto Dermon and started to drag him away into the woods! Dermon knocked out many of them with his super strength, but there were too many werewolves! Elias didn't know what to do, since the werewolves were so big, so he decided to jump onto the King Werewolf and make him let go of Dermon.

But when Elias jumped, he discovered that he could fly!

FLYING was the secret Third Magic Power!

Elias flew up into the trees for a minute before he figured out what to do. Cokey flew with him too, but was VERY surprised to see Elias
flying just like him!

Elias had an idea. He flew straight down to where the King Werewolf was and teased the King Werewolf by flying in circles around his head. The King Werewolf was stupid and kept trying to watch Elias as he flew around and around, but that made the King Werewolf dizzy and sick, and he dropped Dermon. Dermon then could use his super strength to beat up the other werewolves. Then Dermon realized that the Third Magic Power must be flying, so he jumped and flew right up to where Elias and Cokey were, circling over the confused and angry werewolves.

"We beat the werewolves!" they said. Now that they knew they had the power to fly, they were happy. They flew way up into the sky with Cokey and looked down at the whole Land of Dinosaurs that was spread out beneath them in the late afternoon sun.

"There!" said Dermon, pointing at a mountaintop. "There are the bad dinosaurs that the Whale talked about!"

Sure enough, upon a mountainside the boys and Cokey could see a whole tribe of mean Tyrannosauruses. They were bullying a little Triceratops and being mean to him.

"Let's go teach those bad dinosaurs a lesson!" said Dermon. "And eat all their hot dogs!" said Elias.

The boys and Cokey flew through the air to the Tyrannosaurus Mountain. They dove straight down into the middle of the Tyrannosauruses that were bullying the little Triceratops, and they started fighting. They bopped them and bashed them. They knocked them and rocked them. They tripped them and nipped them. The Tyrannosauruses were big and mean, but they didn't know how to fight the flying boys with super strength and power rays.

Soon all the Tyrannosauruses were running down the mountainside to hide in caves, and the little Triceratops was saved.

Cokey didn't do much of the fighting. Cokey mostly just flew in circles and was noisy.

But the boys were tired. They had used up a lot of their magic powers
fighting the bad dinosaurs and helping the good dinosaurs. They flew down to the ground and rested.

They decided to go back to the car where Mama and Papa were.

But suddenly, the biggest, meanest, most giant Tyrannosaurus of them all jumped out of the woods and surprised the boys! They started to fly off but their flying powers were weakened. They tried to fight the Tyrannosaurus but their super strength was fading. They tried to use their Power Rays, but all it did was make the giant mean Tyrannosaurus even madder.

Then the Tyrannosaurus grabbed Cokey and started to eat him!

That is when there was a loud noise. It was the car honking! Papa and Mama had come in the car! They drove the car right into the mean Tyrannosaurus's legs and knocked him down. He dropped Cokey. Papa kept driving and pushing the Tyrannosaurus with the car, and kept pushing and pushing, until the Tyrannosaurus was pushed up against a tree, and Papa smushed the bad dinosaur up against the tree and killed him.

Dermon and Elias and Cokey were so happy, they jumped into Papa's arms and hugged him. Then they hugged Mama. Then they all decided to leave the Land of Dinosaurs, and finish their trip, and go see Pappy.

Pappy was standing outside Pappy's Castle at the Ranch when the [____]  family arrived. He was so surprised to see a giant Tyrannosaurus strapped to the top of the car! But he was happy, because he knew that they would have a big dinner that night of Tyrannosaurus.

Well, the Tyrannosaurus was so big that they didn't just make Tyrannosaurus for dinner. They had Tyrannosaurus stew, Tyrannosaurus soup, Tyrannosaurus steaks, Tyrannosaurus BBQ ribs, Tyrannosaurus sandwiches, Tyrannosaurus haggis, Tyrannosaurus hot dogs, Tyrannosaurus burgers, Tyrannosaurus chili, Tyrannosaurus cake and even Tyrannosaurus pie.

Late that night, when everyone was about to go to bed at Pappy's castle, Papa was taking the left over Tyrannosaurus bones that hadn't been eaten, and getting ready to throw them in the trash.

"Wait a minute, Papa," said Mama. "You got to save the bones for Parson Jones, 'cause the Parson don't eat no meat."
