Down in the Holler [[File:Holler1.jpg]] Ain't much to do in the holler, so folks tend to stare at whatever's movin, and that's usually Tater. On account of most other folks here is shiftless. So when a new shipment of millet or sorghum comes in, they's a crowd gathers round to watch Tater shovel. Used to be that made him uncomforted, but after a while he figgered why not put on a show? Tater'll grunt and groan and sing Negro work songs. He'll twirl that shovel and swing it high and low, then after a spell he plant it in the seed corn so's it stands up. Then real slow, he reaches in the chest pocket of his Dickeys and draws out the ol corncob. He'll pull out the pouch, load up his pipe, light it, and lean back to set on that shovel handle. They love it when he starts a leanin but the handle's a foot or two over to the side, and you can see it in their eyes that they hopin ol Tater falls butt first into that corn, but he always catches hisself.... well, not always. Sometimes the timin is off. Sometimes Tater's got somethin on his mind and wishes weren't no one standin there, expectin a show. Yep. They's folks gone home disappointed, and they's folks wander off when Tater's back is turned, and sometimes the little kids'll say "awww", like they was expectin the circus and ended up in church. But you know what? They come back. They always come back. Cause they know there's a show, and Tater's always goin to put what he gots into it. Folks is forgivin if they know you. And the ones that don't? Well, most of them got the show they come for, and more. Strangers come and go, and they's more on the way. And most of em gonna leave happy.
